Beautifully illustrated children’s book exploring themes of friendship, rejection, and reconciliation. We all know it’s tough being the new kid at school, and how about when the new kid unintentionally steals your best friend, and you’re left feeling “Unfriended?”
As an elementary teacher, I’ve read lots of books with my students that explore the difficulty of being the new student trying to fit in. I have not found a books addressing the challenge of being the friend of the student who befriends the new kid.
I love the themes this book explores, and the opportunity it presents for talking to children about befriending new students, and having empathy for old friends when they feel abandoned, and how to balance the many nuances of relationships and friendships throughout life!
“Two words came to Stephen’s mind. ‘Instant enemies.’ The new kid just didn’t know it, yet.”
