Journee is not only a mouse but a princess who loves adventure, especially when she has them alongside her best friends, Mr. Toad, Mr. Owl, and Mr. Steed. Not long after their very first escapade together, finding the legendary Pond of Reflection, the four companions find themselves in yet another wild exploit, that is decidedly dangerous and threatens the entire kingdom.
On one lovely fall day, the friends have no idea what is in store for them when they discover a furry blob on top of a boulder, a rock hyrax, and learn of a message for Journee’s father, the Great Mouse King. Mr. Badger's message warns the king of a formidable army of locusts gathering on the kingdom's northern border in the Great Plains by the sea. The king and his Council devise an unlikely plan to not only help the locusts but hopefully thwart the significant threat they pose to the kingdom. This plan's success will require the help of every kingdom animal, great and small, and a very special gift of the rock hyraxes, who live in the crags of the High Western Mountain.
This adventure story is inspired by the Biblical Proverb 30:24-28 (NKJV) and communicates the morals of helping your neighbor, that power can come in small packages, and the effectiveness of working together.

The Hyrax Song is book 2 in The Pearls of Wisdom Series. I currently have four books. Each book is inspired by a Biblical Proverb which is listed in the front of the book. With the Proverb as a foundation, the books are a creative adventure fable for ages tweens and up.
I enjoy the Council scene where the king devises a very unlikely plan to thwart a major threat brewing on the northern border of the kingdom, and chooses the most unlikely creatures as key to the success of this mission.
The king looked thoughtfully at each member with great love and devotion in his eyes. Journee was quite familiar with this look. It meant that her father now had a plan and was making ready to address the members of the group.
“My dear and esteemed colleagues,” the king began, “I sincerely thank you for your counsel and ideas. Your candor has inspired the plan we must follow and our only successful strategy.”
All eyes looked to the king as he paused, then continued.
“My esteemed Mr. Leo, you are correct to suggest we need a powerful coalition to meet the challenge of this army.”
Mr. Leo nodded his large head and beautiful mane with a hint of pride as the king addressed him.
“However,” the king continued, “power comes in many different forms according to the task at hand. I am concerned that fierceness, strength, agility, and swiftness may not be enough to thwart a swarming army of locusts. While a single tiny grasshopper is indeed no match for you, millions of them in a swarm could certainly overwhelm the fiercest lion, the strongest bear, the most agile of rams, and even the swiftest of stallions.”
Mr. Leo glanced over at Mr. Bubba, the bear, and hung his head ever so slightly.
“We must look to other kinds of powerful gifts in this very unusual circumstance,” the king said. “I have made my decision. I am looking to a coalition we need to be victorious in this undertaking: Mr. Badger, Mrs. Alice, and Mrs. Spindle, will you each come forward?”
There were muffled gasps as the rock hyrax, the ant, and the spider moved onto the Council table to stand with the king before the others.
“I present to you my selected coalition,” announced the king.
“Power does not always come in big packages. Though this group is small in stature, they are exceedingly wise in their talents and will provide for us what we need to meet this army and save the kingdom.”
The Council erupted with applause punctuated by roars, hisses, chirps, brays, bleats, and cock-a-doodle-doos. Yet it was apparent members were still baffled as to how Mr. Badger and this tiny coalition could possibly be of service.
