[From the Author] Hi there! My name’s Dan, and I would be honored if you’d join me in my standalone book #3 (no need to read the others if you don't want) on a COSMIC EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER. Arguably, this is the greatest space-odyssey love story ever written! Yes, in this 10-book series we hurtle through dimensions, colonize the solar system, travel to distant stars, see the death of the Universe, and get lost in the Multiverse. Periodically we dive into the past, skip into the distant future, and brave death itself! It’s all incredible fun, even though we must face terrible enemies, pain, and sacrifice. But along the way, we’ll also lay bare our own hearts, hopefully ending up better than we started! Sally is on the greatest and deepest romantic journey of all, growing up in the household of the young Jesus...
David King faces a similar dilemma as Sally. In a dystopian future timeline he leads resistance fighters in a losing fight against the vicious invading aliens. Dave is close to erecting a Dark Energy planetary shield to protect Earth from their vast fleet. But a fanatical army of nuns, lead by his own mother, is blocking his efforts! To have a shot at saving Earth, Dave must reject his family, transgress sacred religious beliefs, and embrace a "take no prisoners" brutal war plan. Across the millennia, can Dave and Sally sway each other to do the unthinkable? Or will they rise above their own genetics, together recognizing and attacking their true worst enemy?
Chapter 1: LAST CHANCE
Sally returned to consciousness lying sprawled on a hot rock in a blistering desert.
Her back hurt terribly. She feared it was broken. And she was being baked by a relentlessly blazing sun! It hung high in a cloudless sky, nearly blinding the rapidly blinking Sally. A strong hot wind continually blew against her body, slamming her face and eyes with biting sand. Also, her clothes felt uncomfortably loose. Eh?
“Where am I?” she gasped through cracked lips. “And how long...have I been...lying here?”
Close around her she saw only sand, rugged yellow cliffs, and rocky hills. Looking further, she saw she was in a wide gully between two high peaks that looked to her blurred sight like giant upturned fangs! Some ancient cataclysm had scooped out the middle of an existing mountain, leaving two sharp cliffs protruding upward on each side. The only vegetation was a few dried-up shrubs also blasted by the mercilessly hot wind.
But off at a distance in the wide gully, lying on its side, Sally glimpsed the Red Obelisk! She managed to roll over from lying on her back. Then she painfully crawled in the direction of the huge, rectangular, red-glass structure. She noted that it was now quickly being covered up by wind-blown sand. It should have been shimmering and glowing, but it wasn’t. She and her scientists had come up with intricate algorithms and mechanisms to control the transport device originally made by an extinct Martian race. The ancient artifact, once activated, was able to tap-into that rarest form of dispersed energy: Time itself! Having hurtled more than 2,000 years into the past, it should be brimming with energy, fully charged up!
It was supposed to be her base of operations once she arrived. Then, she’d use its incredible power incisively, altering the distant past to set mankind upon a new, radically different timeline. But it just lay there like a giant, dead, rectangular rock. It took a long time for her to finally drag her hurting, weak body up to its towering side.
Then she slammed a weak fist into its red, glassy side…
“You were supposed to be how I take control of the primitive civilizations of the first century!”—she screamed at it.
She half-expected it to reply. Instead, it did nothing. It was just a useless piece of dead rock, oblivious to her outrage. The only thing that moved was the blistering desert wind whipping hot sand into her eyes.
"How will even find...let alone kill...Jesus?" she gasped. "And where am I? Without water...I'll be dead in a couple days!"
But even worse, she realized she was no longer the shrewd woman who began this terrible journey back through Time. Her body was now that of a helpless, quivering, little girl...
