Many people who give their lives to Jesus have a spiritual desire to serve Him well, but don’t know how to start. And others who start out well give up along the way ... all because they lack an understanding on what the Bible teaches about discipleship. That’s what SPIRIT-FILLED DISCIPLESHIP: HOW GOD REVEALS CHRISTLIKE DISCIPLES is all about. Authored by Dr. David Fleming, a Spirit-filled minister who has experienced the life changing dynamics of discipleship in his own life, will help you discover the principles and power of Biblical discipleship and how being a disciple of Jesus will transform your life.
The author uses King David to represent how God uses disciples of Jesus to reveal the prophetic, priestly, and kingly ministry of Jesus.
The fact that God has called all disciples of Jesus to represent the life and ministry of Jesus is foundational to understanding true Biblical discipleship and is the approach taken in the Spirit-filled Disciples Series (3 books). The series was written to help the reader gain insight into how God calls, prepares, and reveals Christlike disciples. The Full-Gospel tone of the series sets it apart from other discipleship study books.
The "Pause & Reflect" questions following each sub-section promote personal involvement with that which is taught in the series. The questions make the book perfect for personal Bible study as well as group discipleship classes.
The Lord Jesus is going to reveal Himself through a new generation of disciples. A generation that will be the fulfillment of the prophecy recorded in Romans 8:19.
For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. (Romans 8:19, ESV) This scripture is talking about the day when the disciples of Jesus will fully represent Jesus! But in order for that to happen the Church is going to have to get serious about growing mature in Christ. Or as the Apostle Paul put it:
… attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4:13, NIV) That is what God is calling the Church to do, reveal Jesus Christ in His fullness! And that is exactly what is going to happen during the great revival outpouring that was prophesied by Joel the prophet. Joel’s prophecy was initially experienced by the early Church on the Day of Pentecost, but it’s going to be experienced in an even greater way in these last days. “... I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. (Joel 2:28–29, NIV)
This revival outpouring will give birth to disciples who will begin to reveal Jesus in such an awesome way that it will far exceed anything the world has ever witnessed in Christian ministry! One of the reasons these disciples will be so dynamic is because they are going to be anointed by Jesus to represent His prophetic, priestly, and kingly ministry. David is a good example of one who received an anointing from the Lord that was revealed in prophetic, priestly, and kingly ways. Thus, the next three chapters will deal with these three facets of ministry, how they were revealed in David’s life, and how they are going to be revealed in the Church in order to reveal the fullness of Jesus.
