Mack's quest for solitude and windshield therapy following his wife Georgia's cold-blooded murder becomes a high stakes adventure as a Texas Ranger and high ranking FBI agent seek to track down her killer.
A mysterious hitchhiker, smugglers, and a determined killer lead Mack onto a journey filled with twists and turns and dreams and visions. He soon discovers his new journey is about much more than getting his load delivered on time. It's about a battle between good and evil as old as time itself.
A story filled with mystery, suspense, adventure, humor, and a touch of romance leads to an unforgettable ending.
It is the only book I'm aware of that has a truck driver as the protagonist. Making it even more unique, the protagonist is a trucker-turned-pastor-turned-trucker. The book has been marketed to non-Christians as well since it's message is meant both to draw them to Christ and strengthen believers in their faith. Trucker lingo and Texas jargon give it a special flavor and appeal as well.
The dreams and visions experienced by the protagonist that God gives him throughout the book as the story progresses, revealing His purpose in the protagonist's life and in the world around him. The vision placed in the center of the book will be long remembered by Christians and non-Christians alike. The mystery of The Hitchhiker will stay with the reader for a long time after they have read the story as well.
Georgia picked up another glass fragment and tossed it onto the floor
beside Mack. “Your father died in prison a long time ago. You’re going to
die in a prison of your own making if you don’t free yourself. You’ve been
trying all these years to prove you’re better than your drunken father,
that you’re not white trash anymore. And all along, you had a wife who
adored you for who you are. You never had to prove anything to me.
You’ve wasted too many years, Bobby Lee. Just be you from now on. Just
be you.”
Mack and Georgia’s eyes locked together as a lifetime of memories
rolled by like a movie before Mack’s eyes, like a man drowning at sea.
Georgia looked away and stared instead at the shattered wineglasses
on the kitchen floor. “I’m sorry I made a mess.”
Mack choked back the words he wanted to say. I never got to say goodbye,
he thought. But he just forced a smile and said, “I’ll have the maid
clean it up.”
“We don’t have a maid.”
“I’ll get one. I’ll have to. I can’t take care of myself. Remember?”
Georgia stared once more into the eyes of her husband. “You have to
let me go, Bobby Lee.”
“I can’t let you go. Ever. You didn’t have to leave me. I would have
taken care of you. Maybe you could have been cured. Why didn’t you
go to another doctor after seeing Dr. Hashim? Cancer isn’t necessarily a
death sentence these days.”
“Cancer?” Georgia tore the bandana from her head, revealing her
luscious head of red hair. The color returned to her face as she shook her
head to and fro. Her face became fresh, vibrant, and full of life. “I never
had cancer.”
A tap, tap, tapping on the door as Georgia spoke became louder and
louder until it could no longer be ignored. Georgia smiled, and spoke in
a soft voice that sounded like a whisper above the noise.
“Good-bye, Bobby Lee.”
The intruder now pounded on the door. Mack turned his eyes away
from his wife and faced in the direction of the voice heard from behind
the door.
“Mack!”
