The characters
So in the winter, Renly saved all the snow he could. In the spring the snow melted and he sent a rush of clean current downstream and washed the swamp away. Gradually he lessened his waters until the pond and glade returned. The creatures of darkness and night, the mosquitos and minnows, flies and fungi, lizards and leaches, and spiders thanked him and returned to the pond. The creatures of light and day, the crayfish and catfish, the turtles and tadpoles, the bullfrogs and beavers, and dragonflies thanked him and returned to the stream. Although she was gone, never to return, Renly could still feel his mother’s current guiding him. He said to himself, "I miss you mother. I’m sorry I was away so long."
