Much of what we see today is blamed on racism. More often than not, when we see social, civic, political, and even religious problems, we blame racism as the underlying cause. Although racism is sometimes correctly identified as the reason for some of these occurrences, I’ve found that in most cases, this is not a valid conclusion.
In Race, Racism, and Slavery, The Biblical Perspective, I explain with documented evidence that racism is not the primary problem of the majority of bad circumstances and situations that arise. I demonstrate how racism is most often used as a social and political weapon to accomplish other goals.
In Race, Racism, and Slavery, The Biblical Perspective I explain the biblical perspective on issues surrounding this subject, and demonstrate how racism and slavery is not new but has existed since biblical days. This book also demonstrates why and how some people are white while others are black or brown.
I also explain that this is not a social problem but a spiritual one. A spiritual problem can only be properly resolved with a spiritual solution. Understanding this will help us realize the source of the problem and what is the accurate and permanent solution. That solution is found in the Bible.
Race, Racism, and Slavery examines this issue from a biblical and secular perspective, while giving examples from both views. As a young man who grew up in the south in the 1960s and now serve as a pastor of a local congregation, I am now better equipped to apply the Scriptures to practical experience. This book brings out facts surrounding race, racism, and slavery that will surprise most readers as most people have not seen the carefully researched and documented information this book contains.
My favorite part of the book is the first chapter where I demonstrate with scientific, philosophical and logical evidence how we can determine the reliability of the Bible, how the Bible has a perspective n everything, an how we must go to the Bible for the answer to all problems.
Race, racism, and slavery involves moral ramifications and must be considered as such. and since the Bible is the foundation for moral principles, we should go to the Bible when addressing these issues. In doing this, because we have the right source, we will never worry about having the wrong perspective, other than perhaps questions in interpretation. When we have differences in interpretation, we prayerfully and lovingly discuss and reason with each other to get the right perspective (Isa. 1:18). Then we agree to adhere to what truth the Holy Spirit enlightens us with, regardless of prior teachings, opinions, or feelings. This is how we let this mind be in us which is also in Christ Jesus (Phil. 2:5).
To determine what is right from what is wrong, there must be a standard with which we human beings must be guided. The standard by which we must be guided must not and cannot change as a changing standard is not a valid standard. …… God gave us a standard to guide us and one in which we should abide; a standard that would let us know if we are right or wrong in every aspect of our lives – one that does not change, as God does not change (Mal. 3:6; Heb. 13:8). That standard is the Holy Bible which, as shown above, has a perspective on everything since this is where all wisdom and knowledge is found. To apply the Bible accurately and sufficiently to Race, Racism, and Slavery, there are certain moral foundations that we must possess and apply. The five basic moral foundations that we must always use in making this application are found in the discipline of Christian ethics; and are Love, Justice, Honesty, Integrity, and Civility. At a minimum we must have and use these moral virtues to effectively apply the principles of the Bible to any given situation and/or circumstance.
