The On Wings of Prayer Devotional provides a model for praying through Scripture. This technique helps readers to connect with God’s Word on a deeper level. It moves them beyond just reading words on a page to experiencing the inspired Word of God speaking directly into their hearts. On Wings of Prayer is the Prequel (Sampler Size) to Deborah’s “Pray-It-Through" Devotional Series.
This Devotional is divided into three sections, each focusing on a Biblical prayer that can be applied to one's life (Psalm 27:4-8, Matthew 6:9-13, & Ephesians 1:17-19). Each of the 21 entries includes follow-up verses and prayers to help readers meditate and pause in the Lord’s presence to deepen their conversations with the Lord. There is also a Bible Study after the second section that features Jesus’ prayer from John 17.
Deborah’s modeling of praying through Scripture defines words and verses with literal and spiritual meanings. This is essential for comprehending and applying God's Word to one's life. The E-book is beautifully illustrated and shaded in lovely watercolors with accompanying winged sketch art.
I loved preparing the Bible Study from John 17. We can learn so much from the ways, times, and processes of Jesus’ prayer life. It was the central theme of His mission and ministry, and this is an example that He set for us. Since prayer is our most important conversation, it’s vital that we learn how to become proficient in it—1) to honor God, 2) to commune with the Lord to love Him and others, 3) to convey our thanksgiving, 4) to bring our needs before His throne, & 5) to serve Him by being stewards of this gift on the behalf of our friends, family, and the world around us.
Hear Me as I Pray, O Lord!
“Hear me as I pray, O LORD. Be merciful and answer me! My heart has heard you say, ‘come and talk with me.’ and my heart responds, ‘LORD, I am coming.’” Psalm 27:7-8 NLT
Dear Lord, the day that I read this translation of this verse, I stopped in my tracks. I paused at the “asked and answered” type of phrasing. It’s so beautiful to be able to pray to You about anything—my friends, family, and concerns. It’s a comfort to bring my hurts or wounds. It’s so sweet to come with praise upon my lips and adoration in my heart. So, this wording, “My heart has heard you say, ‘come and talk to me,’ and my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming,’” is precious to my soul. It’s like a sacred song has taken place between Your Spirit and my inner being. It means that You long to commune with each of us personally. Jesus, let my prayer be like breathing, so constant, so natural, that I am quick to praise and include You in every moment of my day. Amen.
LORD—(Yahweh)—is the Hebrew name for God, meaning “sacred.”
Jesus, the most Holy God, bends down to hear your voice and to respond. That is the simple and complex gift of prayer. It is divine communication via the Spirit—between the ear of God and the heart of man.
