Facing the greatest storm of his life, Paul Worstell leaned on his faith in God and the support of his family and friends to overcome a devastating illness that nearly took his life. In 2013, Paul was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia that required two years of treatment and a stem cell transplant. When a difficult childhood and an absent father threatened to steal his joy, the Lord’s presence and strength carried him through and taught him that God can be trusted, no matter what. Against all odds, Paul is now completely healthy and free from cancer. Paul is proud to be a husband to Kristi and a father to Brady, Landon and Carter.
This is the story of my family and I and the storms we as our family encountered and how God walked alongside us.
There were so many times that God showed up and carried my family and I and He did so in ways that you can only explain by being from God. His ways are always higher than our ways and He proves that over and over.
This was the declaration God gave me after I was diagnosed with cancer.
“Hello, family and friends. I wanted to let you all know that I have been blessed with an unbelievable opportunity from God. The opportunity that I have been given is to battle a disease called leukemia that is currently attacking my body. I know it will at times knock me down and will take things from me, but I will get up EVERY TIME, and I will come at it by the power of Jesus Christ. It is not only attacking me but is attacking the very one who created me. I can tell He is not happy with It. My Heavenly Father has taken me through a lot over the course of my life, and now I am starting to realize that all those battles were preparing me for this one. The great thing is that I win no matter what happens.
I thank God for giving me this opportunity to show off His power. I consider it a true honor and a great blessing to battle side by side with the King of Kings and The Lord of Lords. I am promised that I will be FULLY equipped to handle ANY difficulty that comes my way. This doesn't mean I will take leukemia lightly or take it for granted. It means that I am prepared to battle just like David was when he faced Goliath. And just like David, I will not wear a suit of armor or come out with weapons hanging over me. I will come to battle with Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and an army of prayer warriors. I can't think of any better weapon to go into battle with. Get ready, leukemia. Game on!
Isaiah 41:13. For I am The Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, "Do not fear: I will help you."
He's got this!”
