The book is all about developing discernment in our lives. It’s divided in two parts: “Choices in Our Outer Life” (speech, temper, friendship, and more) and “Choices in Our Inner Life” (our mind, conscience, the nature of our prayers, worship, how we handle God’s Word and our Bible Study).
*NOTE: Along with being available for purchase, it is also free on Kindle Unlimited.
In 2001, “Choices That Lead to Godliness” was an ECPA Nominee for the Gold Medallion Book Award.
The following gave an endorsement for the book: Beverly LaHaye, John MacArthur, D. James Kennedy, and more.
Also, the following ministries endorsed the book: THE BAPTIST BULLETIN—THE SOUTHERN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION OF BIBLICAL COUNSELORS—GRACE HARBOR. COUNSELING MINISTRIES—COUNSELING SOLUTIONS—EVANGELICAL TRAINING ASSOCIATION—TODAY’S CHRISTIAN WOMAN—-VIRTUE MAGAZINE—THE DISCERNING READER—-and more.
This question is really a subjective question. l’ve had many women tell me what their favorite part of the book was—and their favorite parts were so different from the others.
For me personally, my favorite part had to do with how we handle the Word of God—I wrote two chapters on this and put it at the end of the book because it’s a tad bit more academic.
Here’s a teaser:
I knew my father would be waiting for me when I arrived. Opened the front door, and there he was sitting on the couch. He glanced quickly at the clock; I could tell he had been watching it. Then he looked at me, ready to hear about the evening’s events.
As I told him what happened, his face turned progressively deeper shades of angry red. He shook his finger at me and said something I never forgot: “Don’t you have any discernment?”
Since that day my ambition in life has been to develop a “discerning eye” that would help me avoid potentially troublesome situations. And when I came into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ the following year, a new dimension of understanding was added, as I realized the great value of discernment and how truly precious it is from God’s perspective.
